What is the history of Adidas?

Adidas AG, in short Adidas, is a German manufacturing company of athletic apparel and shoes, and sporting goods. Adidas was the second-largest sportswear manufacturer in the early 21st century across Europe and the second-largest company worldwide after Nike. A three-stripe traditional trademark characterises all Adidas products. Adidas headquarters are located in Herzogenaurach, Germany.

Adidas was founded in 1915 by Adolf ’’Adi’’ Dassler, who used his mother‘s laundry room to make sports shoes in Herzogenaurach, Germany after he came back from World War I. Rudolf, Adolf‘s older brother, joined the business in July 1924, which changed the company to Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory. Due to the unreliable supply of electricity in Herzogenaurach, the brothers used pedal power for their equipment.

Dassler assisted in creating spiked running shoes for different athletic events. The quality of spiked shoes was enhanced by transitioning from heavy metal spikes (The previous model) to rubber and canvas. In the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Dassler persuaded Jesse Owens, a US sprinter, to wear his handmade spikes. Because of that, the reputation and name of Dassler shoes have become popular among the world‘s trainers and sportsmen.

Adidas designed the Trefoil logo in 1971, launched in 1972 and lasted until 1997 when the Three Bars logo was introduced. After the split of the two brothers in 1974, the company was later sold to French industrialist Bernard Tapie in 1987.
